These are films rated 7.4/10 or better whose audience is smaller than the median film in the corpus (7,783 votes). They are not obscure for being bad — they are obscure for being under-distributed, badly marketed, foreign-language, or simply old enough that the internet stopped voting.
Television is excluded here on purpose: a widely watched series accumulates far fewer TMDB votes than a blockbuster, so putting both on the same scale would file famous shows under “hidden”.
These titles also make the best brackets. A tournament full of famous films is predictable; a tournament where you only recognise half the line-up forces an actual decision.
